Chairman's Corner; August 19, 2026

It’s hard to believe we are almost at the end of summer, which is now leading us into the heart of the 2026 election cycle. People involved in politics can feel the gradual momentum of heightened intensity that will continue to increase as we head toward the November 3rd Midterm Election. As we go forward, we must all understand the importance of this election. it was clear that the 2024 election was monumental with the return of President Trump, but the 2026 election is becoming equally important. Each election seems to be more important than the last, but we now realize we can never take our freedom for granted.

The most disturbing movement developing in this election cycle is how the left is moving even further left, now known as the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). As our public-school systems throughout our country are deliberately not educating (or miss-educating) our children on the exceptionalism of the United States, we have a whole generation, Generation X, who does not understand that America is the most generous country, with the most freedoms and advantages of any other country. Many Americans born here have no idea how lucky they are to be citizens of the United States. Hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup here was monumental in showing the world how friendly, kind, and free America is. We all loved seeing social media posts from around the world of people enjoying our food, enjoying our culture, and singing John Denver’s “Take Me Home Country Roads.” No one could have planned this; it was organic, born of love for soccer.

Now we have the Democrat Party in total shambles, with a third of the party now referring to themselves as the Democratic Socialists, referring to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). This week, two people changed their registration at the CCRP from No-Party to Republican, and another lady decided to register as Republican from Democrat here at the Republican Headquarters. This is just in one week. Unfortunately, throughout the country, we have young people, often Gen X, who think that Socialism is a good and workable form of government. We have to recognize that this is a trend and fight against it. How do we combat this? Once more, we must educate our citizens, and this is difficult because of our public schools and colleges are failing to provide the education that we are paying for. For me, we must be able to clearly explain the different forms of governing systems. Below are brief descriptions of the different forms of governing systems so we can at least familiarize ourselves with these “isms,” as I like to call them, when we get into a discussion.

And then the further differentiating between Capitalism and the various forms of Socialism/Communism/Marxism:

Free Market Capitalism and a Republican form of government aligns incentives with natural personal as well as large-group behaviors. This provides equal opportunity for all and facilitates everyone achieving the best they are capable of. The greatest number of people are provided the opportunity to thrive and this system protects any type of minority groups from being hurt through the whims of democratic mob rule.

In contrast the various flavors of Socialism (Marxism, Communism, etc) and Democratic forms of government push against human nature in that they attempt to achieve equal outcomes (equity as contrasted with equality) amongst the masses. And because they go against human nature they must rely on authoritarianism to control the behavior of the people, thus contrary to their stated goals, setting up a distinct and widely separated two class system (officials in power and the masses). While fighting human nature these authoritarian forms must continuously ramp up their authoritarian behavior to maintain control. These systems have been shown to only function in small, tightly knit, compliant, and usually religious groups (history demonstrates that the maximum size is around 150-300 people, see Dunbar's Number and studies of the Hutterites).

I am extremely proud of our staff at the CCRP. Our volunteers continually call low-propensity voters and include handwritten postcards for those without phone numbers on file. In a recent Leadership Institute class, I learned that people who send handwritten postcards see a 20% uptick in voter turnout. Between the phone calls and the postcard writing, I believe that may have been what propelled us to a 45% turnout for the Primary, the highest turnout for Republicans in our state. For the coming General Election, I have set a challenge for us to get an 80% turnout. Would you like to be part of the history making for the Carson City General Election on November 3^rd? Friday night, August 21, we will show Young Washington at the CCRP Headquarters, 1971 California Street. Doors open at 5:30, and the movie starts at 6 PM. We have only a few more seats available. There will be pizza and salad, and we ask for a $10 Donation. If there is demand, we may show it again, as we aim to please.

August 22: Join Turning Point Action by coming to the CCRP Headquarters, 1971 California Street, for a door-knocking event.

August 27: Our General Membership Meeting is open to the public. The meeting is held at the Casino Fandango, 3800 S. Carson Street. They are renovating the Craft 55 room so that we may meet in the ballroom; signs will direct you. This month's meeting will be special as we will have a candidate forum. Doors open at 6:30, with our meeting starting at 7 PM. We will list on our website calendar which candidates will be attending. Our meetings are free to attend and always informative.

Friday Night, September 4^th: Our First Friday will be held at the Cellar 8 Wine Bar, 408 N. Carson Street. We love Max, the owner, and the Cellar 8 is a cozy place to spend time with friends and have great conversations. 6-8 PM.

September 12: Turning Point Action Super Chase, 9 AM door-knocking. We are meeting at the Republican and door-knocking. Turning Point will have a food truck and music for us when we return from door-knocking.

Once more, our Christmas Party will be at the Governor’s Mansion. It will be a year since our last one, and everyone asks us to repeat the Beef Wellington menu by A Catered Affair. That is the plan, and I believe it will be December 5th, but it’s not etched in stone yet. As we head towards December, please continue to make our Christmas Party part of your tradition.
